Josiah has finally had the chance to meet his cousin Anna Grace. Gracie is infatuated with Josiah and keeps coming up to me saying, "Baby, baby" whenever he leaves the room or goes to sleep. She also likes to give him hugs and kisses and sometimes gets a little overzealous and knocks him over. We have a nice shot of her tackling him on snapfish.When Gracie gets too much for him he says, "AHHHH" in frustration as if to tell us, "Heellllpppp!!" It is pretty funny really. This shot of the two of them was when he 
just woke up and was grumpy and was trying to get away from her as she was hugging him. It has been fun watching them play together! Right now we are having lunch and Josiah is setting a good example of eating lots for Gracie. We hear that usually it is a struggle to get her to eat. More to come from South Carolina soon.
We went over to stay with our friend Lana in Kirkland before we headed out on the plane for South Carolina and she had a little dog named Roxi. Roxi just LOVED the baby and was always trying to kiss Josiah. We have some fun photos of the doggie nearly tackling the baby. He liked Roxi when she was running around, but was a little taken aback when she tried to tackle him. It was really nice of Lana and Jerry to have us and we will be staying with them again the night we come back before we drive back to Spokane. More posts will come soon of baby J and his cousin Anna Grace.
As Josiah has grown and I have been reading to him, I have found there are only a FEW books that he enjoys thus far. When I attempt to try new books I get a very disinterested baby on my hands! I am sure he will like the newer books eventually, but for now he likes familiarity.
Here is a picture of him with his favorite books. The list is as follows:
1) Elmo's Lift & Look Book: A nice book I got for a deal at a garage sale. He loves to rip the flaps off the pages and then proceeds to suck on them. One time I found him with the "oval" shape in his mouth.
2) Green Eggs & Ham--by Dr. Seuss: Usually he will tolerate this one all the way through unless I read it last. It has a lot of words, but I think he likes the meter and cadence of the words.
3) Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes: Where I will sing to him and he turns the big pages back and forth.
4) Choo, Choo--Dora the Explorer: Another board/sound book about a train that wins its whistle in a race. It has lots of buttons to push on the side with various sounds to go with the story.
5) Dr. Seuss' ABC Book: I can get to about the letter "S" or so until he starts to get bored, especially if I read it last. He likes the "M" page because it has a yellow sun like the one in his Elmo book. He tries to lift the flap, but of course there isn't one there.
6) Hand, Hand, Fingers Thumb: He likes it when Mommy taps the book in rhythm to the words and sometimes he pounds on the book too.
7) Ernie & Bert Board Book: He likes to turn the pages and tries to push the buttons that make sounds like-- "Goodnight Bert," Bert snoring, and an alarm clock.
8) Baby's Book--Ready for Fun: This one has one picture and one word on each page. His favorite pages are the telephone (brrring, brrring) and the car (rrrrrr, rrrrrrr, rrrrr).
Back in October Josiah met Olivia, the daughter of our friend's Aaron and Renie. Both Josiah and Olivia have grown considerably since then (see previous post) and now are both crawling all around and look much more "mature." Olivia wanted to give Josiah a hug and/or a kiss, but Josiah was much too fast for her and avoided getting girl cooties at least for today!
It was nice to catch up with Renie as well! We had postponed our meeting for a couple of weeks due to illness on both sides, but we managed to make it today though both of us are dealing with the effects of the latest cold.
Mr. Josiah has just recently become quite interested in the kitchen cupboards and what is inside of them. He is fascinated when they open and tries to get in them before they close. I guess it is time to go buy some cupboard locks. He can only open the cupboards that have towels hanging on them and of course I am always in the kitchen when he is playing there, so for now at this moment we are safe.
He played for a good 20 minutes this morning with these ziplock tops...great fun don't you know! But then he eventually got bored and started heading for the computer cords again and/or trying to pull up on my computer chair. He wants to do what the people do! Anyway, gotta go...bored baby alert!
Today Josiah consistently was able to pick up little crackers and feed himself!! Of course, as you can see he also gets a taste of his fist in the process, but still I gave him at least 7 crackers (the baby star shaped kind) and he fed himself with all of them! I could tell he was pretty pleased with himself that he figured it out. Every time I set new crackers down he right away snatched them up and stuffed them in his mouth! This is amazing to me because it was just the other day I was saying to someone how he wasn't quite able to feed himself yet.
Our baby is growing up!!
Chris and Kim came over today with their son Colton to play some board games with us and the Daddy's decided to "check for change" as they call it! We had a nice time fellowshipping with them and Josiah is getting to know his new buddy better.
It is still so funny to me that Josiah tries to steal whatever toy Colton is playing with and also they imitate each other. Colton began banging his hands on the sliding glass door and Josiah promptly followed suit and came over to do the same. It is also pretty humorous that Josiah normally could care less about his own pacifiers, but insists on taking Colton's pacifier and played with it for quite some time; chewing, sucking, and looking at it.
Josiah and Colton managed to play a duet on the little Mega Blocks piano as well. It was pretty cute to see them playing together! We are looking forward to seeing them as they grow and become best buddies!
Another update for Josiah is that he is really getting good at standing up and sitting down now. He can scale across objects (like the couch) a little bit, but mainly he just likes to pull himself up, bang on the surface where he pulled up to, and then proceed to sit back down by sticking his bottom way out and falling kerplop on the floor. Sometimes he reaches for things and lands headlong on the object, hence he is gaining some more boy badges (bruises) on his head and such. It is fun to watch him figure everything out!
So...how long has it been since I have made a non-baby post? Not sure, he does consume most of my time! However, at night when he goes down of late I have been working on my first quilting project. I finally managed to get the top done and now all I have to do is attach the backing and do the actual work of quilting. This is a wall hanging quilt which I plan to hang above our bed. It matches our comforter quite nicely!
As you can probably see if you look closer, my lines are NOT straight. My squares all turned out different sizes and so I had to improvise. BUT..it is my first quilting project afterall, so I expected it to be somewhat short of perfection! It has been a lot of fun though and I hope to do many more in the future!
We went over to Colton's house today and he has lots of things Josiah used to try and stand up on his own. He can't of course stand without holding on to something yet, but this was a big step for him to try and pull up onto things. We had seen some signs that he had been trying to do this, but today he made a concerted effort to stand whenever possible! It was very cute.
Josiah loved all of Colton's toys...lots of things to explore! He was crawling all over the place to find all the new things. He especially liked banging the blocks together and playing with all the colorful balls.
It was nice of Colton's parents to invite us over for lunch too! Kim made a great meal and even Josiah had his fill of it as well!
David goes to Awana every Wednesday to work with some of the kids at our church and he met another guy that helps out there named Chris. Chris and his wife Kim called us on a whim today and we went for a walk with them and their son Colton. Colton is 10 months and he was a big hit with Josiah. Colton had a pacifier in his mouth and first thing Josiah made a grab for it. Even though he doesn't even LIKE pacifiers...it had a dangly thing on it so he HAD to get it right away! It was funny to watch them play. The minute Colton would find something, Josiah decided he wanted to play with it and vice versa. They were crawling all over each other trying to get at things they wanted. They also had a nice crawling head butt that I caught on camera as well.
It was nice to meet some new friends! They also go to our church so we will get to see them each Sunday and our little ones will see each other in the nursery.
So as many of you may know I taught myself to knit two Christmases ago and now I have been doing it quite often. I was using this blue yarn to try out a new knitting pattern since the yarn I wanted to use was too difficult to use at first (since I couldn't see the stitches in the fancy, floofy yarn I bought). Josiah decided this yarn/knitting deal was for him and came over to "help" me untangle the yarn.
We have also started reading some more books now that Josiah will sit still for some of them. However, if there are too many words than Mr. Josiah is ready to
wriggle out of my arms to find something better to do. His favorite books are the type with things for him to flip open or the kind that have the buttons that you push throughout the story that play a sound that goes with the
story. My mom saved all my books from when I was little and so we have those plus some others that we have acquired various ways. Josiah likes to open and close the book and when he does it we will say, "open...close" repeat ad nauseum as he opens and closes the book. He gets a big kick out of us doing it I think and opens and closes the pages faster and faster to hear us say it. This especially works well with those board books with the big pages that he can grab onto easily without ripping.
Also a wonderful answer to prayer to mention. I was once again looking at our closet thinking, "Hmmm...we don't have very many clothes in the 12 month size and he will need them soon." No sooner did I say it did we receive a package from one of David's long time friends and former boss, Larraine, sent us a bunch of clothes that her daughter Robin had for her little boy. And guess what? Most all the clothes were either 12 month or 18 month sizes! God truly does provide for us so nicely! Not to mention the next day David's mom had sent us yet more clothes and some socks and shoes that he desparately needed! A big thanks goes out to those folks as well as a thank you to the ultimate Provider, our Lord!
For Valentine's Day, Grandma Walker gave baby Josiah some "nice money" and so I got him among other things this bathtub. At first he sat in it and wasn't quite sure what to do. Up until that point I had always gotten in the bath with him to support him and such. Now that he can sit up, this bathtub works and if he slips a little it won't hurt. Of course I am always within arms reach in case of a head plant in the water though! After he got used to his surroundings, he started to splash....ALOT....and then he splashed some more and then more splashing. I had to shield myself and the floor with the shower curtain so he wouldn't splash all the water out of the bathtub. He thought it was really fun to do this of course...because it makes lots of noise and splashing is what boys do in the water don't you know!
Thank you for the bathtub Grandma!! This is a very popular new thing to explore. Oh and by the way...after the bath he took his official first 4 or more crawling steps forward. Previous to this he has been sort of flinging himself forward and reaching, but David saw him really officially crawl. Mommy missed it (of course) because she was fixing the crib (putting the mattress down) so that baby won't be able to dive off the side of the crib now that he is sitting up and is starting to pull himself up.
So it seems (maybe, I hope) that little Josiah may be trying to alter his sleep schedule a bit. I tried to put him down at the usual time last night (6:00pm) and he didn't want to sleep, so I brought him into our room to play with the toys on the floor. It was clear after about 30 minutes that he was tired, so David put him in his crib. He did fall asleep and then so did we around 9:30pm or so.
Then around 12:30am he was making all sorts of noise and David and I woke up. David went in to check on him and he had kicked the baby monitor off the crib rail and it fell behind the bumper, so he put it back on the crib rail. No sooner did he do that did we hear even louder Josiah noises coming from the crib. I went in there to find him sitting up holding the baby monitor in his hands. He seems to have figured out that this thing with the little green light is the key to getting Mommy and Daddy to come in and rescue him.
So after all this, he wanted to stay up for a while...and finally got sleepy again around 1:30am or so. I put him down that time and then I was able to sleep until 7:30am!! When I got up he was actually still snoring away in his crib...I was amazed! I am hoping this becomes a pattern...but instead of the 12:30am awakening that he might go to sleep later than 6pm!
Well, today Josiah and I took our neighbor Heather and her daughter Brooklynn out to eat to say goodbye. They are moving this Saturday after only being here since September! Heather's husband got a promotion in his job and so they are moving away to be closer to where he will be working. Unfortunately, they will be 5 hours away, so no more quick visits or hanging out on a whim anymore!
It has been so nice to have a friend close by and not only that, but a Christian friend who has a kid around Josiah's age. We have a lot in common (including we both have 1987 Camry's with broken seatbelts) and there will be a big void
when they are gone. However, the good news is that the Lord always provides new friends for wherever we are, so I know that He will provide new friends for both of us!
Thank you Heather & Brooklynn for all the fun times! We will continue to pray for your family that God will guide and direct you where you are going. And please keep in touch!!! And to Brooklynn I say, "AHHHHrrAHHrrrAHHH." (She knows what that means!)
Today I let Josiah try one of those baby biter biscuits. I was told they are "really messy" and so to feed one to him when I didn't plan to go anywhere soon afterward so that I could clean up the gigantic mess. And yes, it was messier than usual food, but he didn't get too messy. He had fun chomping away at this though. At one point, he had worn down one side enough that when he got that side back in his mouth he chomped off a big portion of the biscuit and so I quickly swiped the big piece out of his mouth before he tried to swallow it.
The other day my mom was here and babysat Josiah while I taught lessons.
She said, "I fed him the rest of the peaches and some rice cereal with mixed fruit." I got to thinking about that and I said, "Mom...were the 'peaches' a bright orange color?" (to which she said yes) I then informed her that she fed Josiah the rest of his squash mixed in with his rice cereal and mixed fruit. Good thing babies taste buds aren't fully developed yet! Ha ha ha!
Also, another fun thing is we feed him these easily dissolvable baby crackers. He can't feed himself yet, but rather "moves" the crackers around on the high chair surface and nearly always knocks them off onto the floor. When we feed him the cherry flavor crackers he likes to "talk" following each little bite, so we call those his "talking pills." Of course, when you try to get him to talk for other people they don't work, but he nearly always gives us a little sermon between each talking pill at home.
So little Josiah is slowly but surely recovering from his cold. I am still giving him the breathing treatments for 2 weeks though and will take him back to the doctor on the 27th...his 8 month birthday to check his breathing again. We measured him last night and it looks like he gained an inch to be 30 inches long. At the doctor's last Monday he weighed in at 20 pounds 5 ounces.
As you can see in this photo if you enlarge it, he has his left upper tooth in and I think the right one is on its way soon!
Aunt Genny and Uncle Mike and family gave Baby J this ball and mitt as well as a Mariner's warmup suit (for when he is a little older) but I thought I would get him started playing with the stuff early on...a little early for spring training, but if he is to make the Major Leagues we have to start early right? :)
Little Josiah came down with a cold on Friday night and this morning I could hear him wheezing even when standing away from him, so I decided to call the nurse and see if we should go in or not. She said to come and and sure enough the doctor said he could hear some wheezing in his chest. He has put him on a breathing treatment regimen to help him breathe easier. I have to treat him every 4 hours when he is awake. Each treatment is 8-10 minutes long and he has to sit still and breathe in the medicine through this mouthpiece (kind of like humidifier consistency). Apparently, some children with this condition eventually develop asthma, but the doctor said that doing this could help, so that he may not develop it. By the way..this picture to the right is a great shot of his 2 lower teeth, you can click on it to enlarge. :)
A high point of the day was when we got the Valentine's Day cards from Grandma and Grandpa Walker. Josiah did his usual tests with the card: the wrist test (to see if it has a nice shake to it), the taste test (as demonstrated in the picture) and the banging test (to see if hitting it against something else makes a nice sound). He truly does those three things with every new object we give him. It is pretty funny.
Today Josiah and I went to lunch with my friend Cathy, her daughter Lynne and Lynne's daughter Keira. Keira is 14 months and since her mom babysits a boy about Josiah's age she was pretty good with him. As you can see here she is checking out Josiah's head! Anyway, they had fun "sharing" toys and checking each other out. Keira found his belly button at one point and poked at it which was pretty cute. At lunch, Josiah liked Keira's bib and tore it off of her (it had animals on it with bright colors). Josiah is really starting to notice the little people around him more and was reaching out to touch Keira at times.
It was fun to get out and meet another young mom and to chat with Lynne and Cathy about "baby stuff." We went to this yummy Italian place called Ferrante's on the South Hill. They have this fun little side room for families with kids and we had a nice time eating and visiting there, while the little ones played with menus, little toys we had there and such.
Our little Josiah has taken to sleeping on his belly almost all the time now, though we do lay him on his back when we put him down. And not only does he sleep on his belly and his side, he will also get his feet underneath him (as shown in the photo) so that his bottom will be sticking up in the air. This is a perfectly comfortable position for him.
His pattern for sleeping is currently this one. He will go down at around 6pm or so (depending on when he had his nap) and then he will wake up somewhere around 4:30am (real fun for Mommy the night person). I used to try and sleep on
the futon while he watched an Einstein video, but since that doesn't seem to give me very productive sleep, I have just taken to staying up after feeding him in the morning and get things done around the house. This means the house is usually all clean, laundry done, etc. all before 7am. Yikes!!! But then the baby gets a little sleepy, and so either I will feed him on the futon and we both fall asleep, or if Daddy is awake (around 7amish) then we will go and sleep in my bedroom for a little nap in the morning for about an hour or so.
Then somewhere around 11ish he will want to go down again (usually for about 2 hours) and that is it for naps! Oh and something funny he does that is unrelated to this is that every time he has something new in his hands he moves his wrist back and forth to test the object to see if it makes a nice shaky sound or something fun like that!
For a while now, we have had this game with Baby J where he will be laying on the bed and will throw a blanket on him and say, "Where's the baby?" to which he giggles and then proceeds to pull the blanket off his head. Another version of this is where we put the blanket up to his neck and say, "Kick the covers off" and he violently flails his legs until the blanket is off of his body. The most current game though is while he is sitting up we throw the blanket over him and say, "Where's Josiah? Where's our little Josiah ghost?" He will stay under for a bit not moving and then will let out a couple of giggles to let us know where he is. And then eventually he will either pull the blanket off himself or fall backwards (on the bed of course) and "fix it" from there.
Uncle Brent made Josiah this cute little froggie blanket for Christmas and so this is our current choice for blanket time fun! We were surprised my brother made this himself...with no pattern! Good job Brent! He took a sewing class in high school and then recently he and his finance Katie found a sewing machine for a good deal at a thrift store and so they both chose to make many of their Christmas gifts this year. It was a neat idea and we really appreciated the time spent making them! Katie made me a really neat apron too which I now use quite often...thank you Katie!
So as mentioned in the previous blog entry, little Josiah has been exploring his world a bit more as he has been rolling around the living room. It was so funny because about a week ago we could barely get him to have any tummy time before he gave an "AHHHH" noise of disapproval and now he is rolling over and over and sometimes I find him sleeping on his belly. It is amazing just how quick these new skills become second nature him!
And of course, most anything new that he can get his hands on has to be tasted! Once I discovered he could get to the blinds, I did a thorough cleaning of the trough in which the sliding glass doors reside. Mr. Josiah had to have his
hands washed the first time I found him "digging" in that trough trying to find something interesting to taste.
Another fun thing to mention is that in place of his humming when he gets irritated "mmm, mmmm, Hmmm" he now has changed it to "MmmmA MA Ma, BA ba ba" with varying degrees of irritability and volume. It is very cute and OH so pitiful that Mommy and Daddy have to laugh and of course RESCUE THE BABY from the horribleness.
He has taken to liking either David or I to rock him to sleep before bedtime at night. I used to be able to put him down immediately after feeding and sometimes that still works, but he really likes to sit in our laps and let us rock him to sleep in the dark in his room. It is a sweet time and I know it won't last, so I am relishing it! We love our baby!
Mommy has had this wonderful trick for curing nearing any Baby J fussy episode (other than feeding a hunger pain of course). The cure is to start showing one of his Baby Einstein DVD's and he immediately gets a smile and sits and watches it very intently. His first favorite part comes when this cute little rainbow colored caterpiller (that his cousin Anna Grace calls "Charlie") comes on the screen with the introductory title for each DVD.
His ultimate favorite of the DVD's thus far though is the Christmas one. On the Christmas DVD there is a
scene where this reindeer puppet is decorating a gingerbread man cookie. First, he puts red frosting on it, then leaves the screen and comes back with red frosting on his face. Then he shakes green sprinkles from a cannister on the cookie. Then finally, he pops up quickly (which makes Josiah jump) and there is this "poof" sound and the puppet spits a bunch of powdered sugar all over the cookie. Upon first seeing this portion of this DVD, he started to belly laugh and every time afterward he would laugh when the puppet first came on the screen and would rock back and forth in delight in his saucer.
You can see in these photos that he is "not to be bothered" when his show is on!! And that little rosy cheek on his left side I think came from "doing the wheelbarrow" as I call it. He has been getting his feet underneath him and since he won't do a mini-push up at the same time, he ends up scooting forward with his face on the ground. Hence, why I have the blanket on the floor to minimize the rug burns. His current favorite way to move is rolling from one end of the room to the other with the occassional wheelbarrow scoot to get at what he wants.
Today we went to visit our friends the Grahams, that is Josiah and I visited them. Janeen's kids just love Josiah, especially her youngest (Neriah). He is always finding some of his toys that he has to give to Baby J, which I find very sweet. Joren decided to post the sign "Josiah That Way" in the picture (if you can see that close) which was pretty funny.
Later, Josiah was "folding the paper" as we call it and was using that sign and managed to get the ink from the paper in his mouth. It was when I saw the red ink on his lips that the sign was taken from him promptly. Josiah says, "It is important to test things out with my mouth." Ha ha ha!
Janeen has been a very good friend to me since we moved to Spokane and I am very thankful that she is here. She is one of those friends I can just pop in on at a moments notice and she is willing to have me come by. I like that. I wish I could do that with more of my friends, but most people are so busy that they can't do that these days.
After we drank our diet Pepsi a while back and were getting ready to discard the bottle in the recycle bin, our little one took an interest in it and claimed it for his new favorite toy. He especially likes the yellow top and constantly is trying to get parts of the bottle in his mouth, though unsuccessfu most of the time. Today it was "try momma's patience" day and nothing she did seemed to make baby happy. I am not sure, but I think he may be cutting some more teeth? He has two that have poked through on the bottom front, but I haven't seen any evidence of more, except for the fact he constantly wants to suck on something.
Still, even on the harder days, Mommy loves us with all her heart!
Before we dropped Grandma and Grandpa off at the airport to go home after their stay with us, we went over to see Great Grandma and Great Grandpa for a visit. It was fun to chat with them and see their reactions to little baby. Josiah was fascinated with Great G-pa's whistling and baby J flashed him a big smile which we got on camera here.

Grandma and Grandpa came to visit for a few days after Christmas as "their gift to themselves," which was a lot of fun for baby Josiah as well as for Heather & David.
Grandma helped Heather get the house a little more organized by getting various "organizational tools" for the living room and baby's room to clean up the clutter a bit. This included getting a 4 drawer filing cabinet for all my music, (yeah for that!) a couple of bookshelves and a side table to replace the dangerous bookshelf (sharp edges) that we had before, and for the babies room some Sterilite drawers for the closet to organize my craft stuff and one for the baby's clothes and another little shelf with tubs on it to put many of Josiah's toys and books.
It was a huge relief to get all this stuff organized and a BIG THANK YOU goes out to Grandma and Grandpa for this gift!
While Grandma and Heather were organizing, Grandpa had a lot of quality time with baby Josiah. He got to feed him squash and let him grab the spoon and "feed himself" as well as grab the bowl to lick out the remainder of the squash. This of course made for a very "squashy" Josiah to which Grandpa had a little cleaning up to do. It was very cute though. Grandma got her time in with baby J too though when she would read to him and play with him. Now he is spoiled and wants us to give him attention every second!
Josiah says, "Why is this bow on my head?" We were trying to get a good picture of him smiling with this bow on his head under the Christmas tree as our BEST Christmas present this year, but Mr. Josiah was not in the mood to smile. I looked back at this picture and just laughed and laughed at how mortified he looked with this bow on his head!
Since he had plenty of toys and things already, instead of more gifts, baby's favorite toys today were the wrapping paper and the bows. Mommy got him some special baby books with Bible stories as well though. Our first Christmas with baby J was a special one and we wouldn't trade it for anything. We started out by reading Luke 2, then we opened gifts and did the stockings last. One of David's gifts to me was a jigsaw puzzle and since he and I like doing them together, the present is also the time spent with him doing the puzzle. This was a very popular gift! We plan to go to church later today and then to lunch afterward at some place that is open. Tomorrow Grandma and Grandpa Walker are coming to spend some time with us. We had a Marti Walker Christmas this year....all the presents opened and cleaned up before 6am! We run on baby time here!
Today is not Josiah's birthday as many of you might know since he was just born last June. However, "the girl next door" just turned one year old and had a balloon to spare that Josiah was allowed to borrow since he is a balloon lover. I got lots of fun shots of him with the balloon that I posted on snapfish if you would like to see more pictures. These were the best though. He gets to a point with the balloon where it seems he is afraid of it, but at the same time loves to play with it. It is really funny. However, if there is a balloon in the room he will find it and strain to reach it until you bring it over to him.
Today baby J was practicing sitting up and so I had him propped up with pillows so he could be supported and was giving him toys to play with. I left momentarily to go to the bathroom and when I came back I found him in this state. It was too funny not to take a picture! He is getting pretty good though at sitting up, but his balance is still lacking a bit as you can plainly see! He is reaching for things more now and gets fixated on things that he WANTS and reaches for them. He will throw little fits if you don't give him what he wants too...and the fun begins! Ha ha!
He has also been teething, which really hasn't made things too bad as he has been handling it rather well. His earlier refusal to take anything into his mouth other than mommy's acoutrements has been upgraded to include cold stuff such as this frozen teething toy to help numb his hurting little gums. Anyway...must go, baby emergency!
Grandma & Grandpa Carpenter just sent Josiah a bunch of clothes and this outfit is one of the many they sent. The onesie says "Monkey Around" on it and it is very cute! I added the Santa hat to go with it and baby had some nice holiday attire!

Today we celebrated my birthday which was actually on December 5th. David took the day off from work and we had a nice day together. We went to lunch at this place called "The White House Grill" in Post Falls, ID. We had heard about it from our friends Joyanne and David from church. It is a Mediterranean style cuisine (LOTS of garlic) and it was SO good! We could smell the garlic in the car as we pulled into the parking lot there. I had this Sea Bass dish with risotto rice and Baclava for dessert. We also had this French Bread with balsamic vinegar,
olive oil, and garlic for dipping sauce as an appetizer. David had the
"Istanbul" which was a chicken breast with peppers and garlic and a sauce
served with rice and rice pudding for dessert.
Then later in the evening, we had one of my students come over to watch Josiah and went to see "The Chronicles of Narnia," which by the way is a GREAT movie! It worked out really well too because baby slept the whole time we were gone. We tried to work it out that way as he gets really grumpy if there isn't a Mommy there to wake him up to eat!
We have been getting to know our newest neighbors and yesterday Heather (yes she is a Heather too) invited Josiah and I over to visit with herself and her daughter Brooklynn. It just so happened it was also my 30th birthday that day, but she didn't know that. So it was a nice treat for me to visit with a friend on my birthday!
Brooklynn is almost a year old, so she was running circles around Josiah, but he wasn't letting her have ALL the toys! I went over there around his naptime and Heather let me pu
t him in Brooklynn's crib. He had this petrified look on his face as I lowered him down into a crib with PINK sheets and wall hangings. Not the most popular color for macho boys you know! Anyway, he did sleep about an hour, so that was nice...but he wasn't happy about it! Ha ha ha!
It is fun to have a friend nearby to chat with about baby things once in a while. Heather is a stay at home mom too, so we can have these impromtu visits which are fun. It is just a real bonus too that they are also a Christian family...we have a lot in common!
just woke up and was grumpy and was trying to get away from her as she was hugging him. It has been fun watching them play together!
